Watershed Discovery Day 2025 Recap
On August 16, Climate Network Lanark joined the Friends of the Tay Watershed for their annual Watershed Discovery Day at the Crystal Palace in Perth. Beneath the vaulted glass and alongside the bustling farmers’ market, an incredible cohort of local organizations came together to share knowledge, stories, and hands-on experiences about the watersheds that sustain our region.
CNL’s Director and Vice Chair, Doreen Watson-Donald, and Climate Concierge Coordinator, Sadie Brule, were there to meet visitors at our table and spark conversations about the role of nature-based climate solutions. From curious families to long-time watershed stewards, the event drew a crowd who care deeply about how water shapes life in Lanark County.
Lanark County is home to a remarkable network of Provincially Significant Wetlands (PSWs)—landscapes that provide flood control, filter and clean our water, lock away carbon, and create a habitat for countless species to thrive. At the CNL table, people asked thoughtful questions about how climate change and human interference is impacting wetlands and how protecting these ecosystems is one of the most effective tools we have to safeguard both biodiversity and community resilience.
Events like Watershed Discovery Day offer a chance to have integral conversations, and celebrate the collective curiosity and commitment of our neighbours. For CNL, it was inspiring to see so many residents leaning in to learn more about the waters, wetlands, and wild spaces that define Lanark County. Thank you to Friends of the Tay for hosting us, and for your commitment to creating inviting opportunities that encourage our community to ask questions and get invested in why we should all be protecting these critical natural spaces. We hope to see you at their next event, the Tay river clean-up this Saturday, September 20th, 2025.
A note from David Taylor:
“Good morning, Doreen: This is to thank you, Sadie and Climate Network Lanark for your support for Watershed Discovery Day 2025. Climate Network Lanark’s participation brings a focus and expertise to our most critical, contemporary environmental sector, which we would not be able to adequately address. Your table and display appeared to be receiving considerable attention, and I hope you found it of benefit.
We would welcome any suggestions you might have on the format, layout, promotion, etc. of the event.
Attached are a couple of Donna Walsh’s photos, as a reminder from ‘Watershed Discovery Day 2025’.
Best regards,
David Taylor
