Dedicated time for shared reflections.
Open, informal discussion.
This free and spontaneous gathering, open to all, is an opportunity to
reflect together on Dr. Jane’s groundbreaking work and to celebrate her remarkable contributions to science and humanity. In her final interview, Jane emphasized the importance of hope and individual action, stating that “your life matters, and you are here for a reason.” Her final wish was to offer the opportunity to anyone, in the wake of her passing, to come together to reflect on her work and consider how we might continue her legacy within our communities.
She was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world, a powerful communicator, and her work profoundly changed how the threats facing our planet are viewed. Her principled persona motivated millions to commit to continue the causes she dedicated her life to. Her pioneering research at Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania revealed to the world that chimpanzees use tools, develop deep, lasting relationships, mourn their dead, and even engage in conflict. Goodall shattered the artificial boundary between humans and the rest of the animal kingdom. But what made Goodall special wasn’t just her science — it was her moral courage. She didn’t stop at describing what she saw: with her blend of gentility and ferocity, she asked us to rethink who we are in light of it. We invite you to join us on November 23rd to pay homage to her life’s work and open discussions about her final messages to the world.
This event is organized by Climate Network Lanark with promotional publicity support from the Mississippi Valley Field Naturalists, Friends of the Tay Watershed, and the Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust.
